Cleaning Your PC

All computers require routine maintenance. Physical cleanings are often overlooked, but are just as important as any other routine maintenance.

A desktop computer has plenty of nooks and crannies for dust and debris to hide in. Dust can clog up fans and heatsinks, causing your computer to get warmer than normal due to restricted airflow.

Laptops have similar issues, but tend to accumulate less dust inside.

Desktops and laptops should be powered off completely before attempting to clean it, otherwise electronic components may become damaged.

Special vacuums can be used to remove dust, but don't just use any vacuum. Vacuums cause static electricity, which can harm your computer. There are vacuums designed to be used on electronics. Without a special vacuum, a duster/blower or canned air can be used to blow away dust and debris.

Whichever method is used to clean a computer, it is recommended to do so in a well-ventilated area as cleaning a computer tends to put dust in the air.
