Multi-factor Authentication

We're sure you've heard the phrase "multi-factor authentication" or "two-factor authentication". Everyday, more and more websites are offering ways to authenticate yourself more than once when signing in.

The most common multi-factor authentication methods are:

  • Using an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator or Authy - there are others available)

  • Answering a security question after putting in your username and password

  • Entering a code send to you via email or text

Yes, using multi-factor authentication adds an additional step when logging in, but it also adds an additional layer of security. It forces you to utilize another device or account. It is unlikely that a hacker or scammer has access to both the username and password along with how you provide multi-factor authentication.

Everyone should make the switch over to multi-factor authentication whenever and wherever possible. Don't wait until your accounts have become compromised.
